Finding Joy in the Journey

Joy is cheerfulness. Delight. Gladness. Happiness. Pleasure.

As a result of Adam and Eve's partaking of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, unto the woman God said, "I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee." (Genesis 3:16)

And unto Adam He said, "Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and has eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art; and unto dust shalt thou return." (Genesis 3:17-19)

[So] After Adam and Eve had partaken of the forbidden fruit they were driven out of the Garden of Eden, to till the earth. (2 Nephi 2:19)

Adam and Eve's transgression resulted in them being translated from immortal to mortal and enabled them to obey the Lord's commandment to multiply and replenish the earth. "And they have brought forth children; yea, even the family of all the earth." (2 Nephi 2:20)

Building a family is not easy. It requires the faith, patience, commitment, resilience, physical and spiritual endurance of both husband and wife. Fathers or Husbands are primarily responsible in providing the basic necessities of life of the family. Mothers or wives have the sacred role of bringing forth children into this world. Fulfilling these obligations can be stressful and tiring.

Life is not easy whether you are married or single, male or female, old or young.  We need to work hard in order to live.

I would like to categorize the adversities that one might encounter: (List may not be completely inclusive)

PHYSICAL ADVERSITY. Because our body is not perfect, we are subject to diseases and illnesses. One might experience chronic pain, fatigue, illness, disorders and diseases.

MENTAL ADVERSITY. I can name some like depression, Bi-Polar, Paranoia, anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, amnesia, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

EMOTIONAL ADVERSITY. Life is a learning process. Forgiving yourself and others can be very painful for you. Loss of a loved one is definitely heart-breaking. Accepting failures and dealing with changes can cause deep sorrow.

SOCIAL ADVERSITY includes loneliness.

SPIRITUAL ADVERSITY. Sin is a big stumbling block to our progression. Weaknesses can affect our focus of becoming like the Savior Jesus Christ.

FINANCIAL ADVERSITY includes loss of a job and debts.

Joy comes naturally during the easy times of life and it takes effort to find moments of happiness during adversity. Finding joy in the journey is learning to appreciate anything. It is believing that life is a beautiful thing, that it is a wonderful opportunity for us to learn, grow and enjoy the vast creations of God. No matter what is our circumstance, we can always find a reason to smile or be to be grateful.  During the tough times, remember the times when  you were happy. It will help you accept the challenge/s you are facing, and then you will have peace and gain personal encouragement.

When I was little, I learned this primary song in our church that helped me appreciate life.

Finally, as children of a loving Father in Heaven which make us brothers and sisters, we can help each other in our quest to finding joy in our journey. By exercising our faith and praying for others during his or her adversity, could I believe will find a way to lift him up thus, resulting to joy.
