Thoughts on 2008 LDS Christmas Devotional

After a few fun activities today (games and games again haha), we sat together as a family and listened to the faith-promoting words of the living prophets. They emphasized the real meaning of Christmas, a great time of the year for us to rejoice and honor the birth of the Savior Jesus Christ.

I love Henry B. Eyring's talk especially that he quoted one of my favorite verses in The Book of Mormon. It is Mosiah Ch. 3 verse 19 and I quote "For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father".

I believe that it is very important for us to remember and cherish the life and teachings of the Lord today and always. Christmas is one of my favorite events. And that I am very very grateful for the hope we have in this life and opportunity to become our best selves because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. His life is just a big source of comfort for me. He made it possible for us to return to our Heavenly Father's presence and together with our loved ones partake of eternal peace and joy.

Little fun before Christmas

Big News and feeling the Christmas Season

Irene and I are very excited to announce that we are having a baby girl. We are very excited. That's right, 2 vs 2 now. And although I don't really like even matches (I prefer odds either in my favor or unfairly against me), this will add a little bit more spice to our family. Veyron will also get to be a big brother and learn some responsibility. She will be a cherished prize in our family.

Last week we also went to the ward Christmas party. It was quite enjoyable. We did some service for the needy and ate. It was cool.

I went home teaching today with my companion. We visited a family that had not had home teachers come by in over 1 year. We were glad to be the home teachers to break the drought.

Merry Christmas to everyone. >Kev

Today was our Ward's Christmas Presentation. We were so impressed about the ward choir. They're pretty good. They have sang songs that I've never heard before. They were like angels singing praises to that baby born in the manger. I really love our Bishop's message and testimony that this is the season of angels both on earth and heaven because of their good works and that real joy be found in the true meaning of Christmas.

I just love his words and appreciate them more as I read the accounts of the life of my Savior from the book that James E. Talmage wrote which is Jesus the Christ. I love his life with all my heart. It is just magnificent, powerful and encompassing. May we all cherish his unconditional and unspeakable love for us! >Ij

Funtimes with Daddy and Mommy

One of Veyron's videos when he was 11 months old. Mommy's just sooo bored!

Jumping with Daddy just last week!

111 Grandchildren!

wow! yes i know! It was amazing that Grandpa Calvin Rees has 111 grandchildren (great grandkids included). We went to visit Grandpa (Veyron's great grandpa) last week. The last time I saw him was i think a year ago...he was still strong and active. I still can remember his stories about how much he loved traveling, driving and horses. He's got a lot of tales to tell and I just loved listening to his stories. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to meet him and be his granddaughter through Kevron my husband. It was a fun yet heart-felt visit!

It was a good time... We spoke for over an hour with Grandma and Grandpa. It was sad to see his health and condition as it was. Grandma was happy as she was sharing here family stories: her brothers and sisters and her life growing up. When we got back to my parents house, we watched a video on Grandpa's life. Hopefully we'll be able to travel back and visit them again.

A Warm Visit

So our Mission Mom, Deanna Elggren came to visit us one day. It was a wonderful opportunity to hang out with her for a while and visit and remember the great times from our mission to the Philippines (Tacloban Mission) which is my native land. She was our super Mom there.

Christmas Tree Time

My mom-in-law is very kind to share to me her talent in making ribbons for the Christmas tree. She taught me how to make them on Thanksgiving girls' activity. I practiced several times here at home and thankfully I was able to make some for our tree. I'm very glad about this new learning. We finally completed decorating our tree yesterday and have some lights up on our windows.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for being thankful. Thankful to our God who has given us so many things and blessings. I am most thankful for my loving wife and son. They bring me joy and encourage me to do better and improve myself.

We had lots of fun preparing food for thanksgiving. On the day before Thanksgiving, while Irene was busy making pie, I was making something for me to eat that night. I made some pizza and some salsa.

I spent some time playing the new Call of Duty game with my brothers. It was some pretty funny moments: Aaron left to do something for a moment. He was surprised when he came back and realized that the other 3 of us had created a temporary allegiance and surrounded him, guns pointed at his head, ready for the firing squad. in COD5 when you get a certain amount of kills, you can call in attack dogs. Weston was fighting them off while Braydon was shooting at Weston. When Weston died, he immediately got upset at Braydon for shooting him while he was fighting the dogs. After the sudden burst of anger Weston returned to playing the game. The game was displaying a reply of him getting shot at while fighting the dogs. Not knowing it was a replay, Weston got upset at Braydon again for shooting him. I couldn't help laughing because Weston got so dramatic and upset over the replay. hahaha

Irene was downstairs working on her scrapbooking with the girls. She's got an awesome talent for it. Her book for veyron is one of the best I've ever seen. She got a scrap booking gift for her birthday.

The following day, I went and played Turkey bowl with some co-workers. It lasted about 3 hours. The highlight of the game was when I dunked the ball on a fast break. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad I have the weekend to recover.

First Drawing

Our little Veyron started to use crayons/colors before he turned 19 months old. It was joy to watch him practice what he is being taught. Here are some of the pictures of his work.

Gems of the Weeks

I'm back! haha I know!:) So here's what transpired for the last weeks.

1. We finally moved to a two-bedroom apartment on Tuesday the 11th. We are grateful for extra rooms especially that our Veyron has his own place to sleep in and have fun. We are grateful for all the helps that were extended to us with the moving of our stuffs. I am still organizing the home and is loving it.

2. We got our internet connection transfered to our new place. I'd like to share with you a cute dialogue (I think) between me and my husband as soon as we got the internet.

I was doing the laundry and organizing the kitchen when...

Kev: Pie-thon, I am almost done with my set-up. (very, very excited! :D)

IJ: Oh yeah...(very, very busy and continued working)

Kev: Are you coming? You gonna see it. It's the awesomest set-up ever :P (very, very anxious for me to see it)

IJ: Okay. Hang on. (just continued working)

Kev: Are you gonna come and see it or not? (fretting a little to his wife lol)

IJ: Of course I wanna see it. (hurried and went there excitedly)

Honestly, I really appreciate how he set up the desktop and that part of the living room was cleaned up by Kevron. I also think that he was so cute as I see his happy face and eagerness for what he has accomplished.

3. THOUGHT OF THE WEEKS: Yesterday is history, Future is mystery, Today is a gift that is why we call it Present (the great Oogway of Kung Fu Panda, movie that Kevron downloaded for Veyron)

4. SCRIPTURAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK/REMINDERS:

MATTHEW 5:1-16 "BEATTITUDES" > Teachings of the Savior Jesus Christ

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
13 ¶ Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the alight of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

5. We got to see the family in Roy and was able to take some Christmas pictures.

6. Our little Veyron got to attend the Nursery again. It was a wonderful place for him to learn the gospel and enjoy life as a kid. He's got wonderful teachers. It's funny and great to see how the little children progress step by step. Veyron's favorite things to do for now are: talking on the phone, play ball, do up heres, running in circles, climbing and typing in the keyboard (actvities/interests that are mostly his Dads haha)

7. HYMN OF THE WEEK:

WHEN FAITH ENDURES

I will not doubt, I will not fear
God's love and strength are always near
His promised gift helps me to find
An inner strength and peace of mind
I give the Father willingly
My trust, my prayers, humility
His spirit guides, His love assures
That fear departs when faith endures.

My recent pregnancy picture! Veyron got the camera card and dipped it his cup of milk. hahaha We need to get a new one ;) >IJ

Thoughts

Today I had a couple thoughts. Two ideas that may help in self improvement, Meditation, and Pondering. On my mission, during study time every morning and evening, I would often let my mind wonder. During this time, I often found myself reflecting the events of the week, anticipating pending events, and evaluating myself. During this time I would recognize many things I can do to improve myself. I also found enlightenment as I prepared teachings in my mind.

In the time that I've been married, I've made myself busy trying to establish our family into a state of self sufficiency. This is as part of my five year plan and even longer. Because of how busy I've gotten myself, I don't have the time on a daily basis for the silent meditation and pondering that I had before.

Anyway, the goal for myself is to find extra time for solemn pondering and meditation.

PS. I just found out today that we are only a couple streets away from Pres Thomas S. Monson. Pretty cool.

Random Thoughts

"Fisher's of Men", one of my favorite LDS movies that I am watching right now with my little Veyron. We went home after sacrament meeting since he is still not completely healed yet from his tongue infection and is not feeling well. We left his Daddy there so he could attend the rest of the meetings (gospel doctrine class and the priesthood). It is first Sunday of November and we were blessed to hear encouraging testimonies from our brothers and sisters including the little children.

It's been a month now that we moved to our new place. Kev and I looked forward to having a great new start in this cute place in Holladay. We are excited to apply the things that we learned from the past experiences and just move forward. We appreciate so much the kindness of those people from our new ward that visited our home. Adversities and trials in different ways are normal part of our life. The truth is they are great for they help us become stronger, smarter and better people. It is difficult sometimes but if we will be faithful, the Lord will sustain us and we will have peace and joy .

We loved all the Doctors that Veyron used to have and currently have. In their own ways, they are great. We trust them for their knowledge and abilities since that is their specialization/profession. His first doctor was an old guy but he is wonderful. He was always ready to answer our questions and inquiries regarding Vey's health status. He did a great job since Veyron was born. But now we moved to a farther place so we switched to a different doctor and that we only have one car to fulfill all the errands we have that require transportation. Anyway, we have been trying ways to help Veyron's tongue recover from bacterial infection. The medicine that was first recommended didn't seem to help him and then he was given antibiotics that helped him a little bit but it didn't kill the infection for some reason. However, we noticed that Veyron is at times would eat at least a little bit, being playful, adventurous and that the infected portion of his tongue was not as big as before which is definitely a good thing. It hurts me so much to see him cry and fight the pain after accidentally biting his tongue in his nap or sleep. His Daddy even tried to make this thingy to help his mouth stay close as he sleeps, hold and hug him until he falls asleep on his breast. Kevron is such a caring and thoughtful Father and it really touches my heart. So now Veyron is taking a different antibiotic after having his blood work done at the Primary Children's Medical Center here in Salt Lake. We are going to see an ENT Specialist this week for further check-up. We are grateful for all the services that were extended to our little boy. Just like the other parents, we'd love to see our child happy and healthy.

I talked to my Mother, my family as always and thanked them for all the encouragements and their best efforts to extend help in any ways they can despite the very long distance that divides us. It helps a lot especially when it is so timely or when I needed it the most. The comfort is just so sweet and pure. We are all hopeful and excited to see each other one day with the additionals in the clan or the little ones that will continue the legacies and histories.

Oh yeah when we went to the store on friday to pick up Vey's medicine and buy some chocolates for Halloween, I went down to this isle and saw Papa's favorite cologne... the Brut! Yes I picked one and smelled it. It made me laugh and unavoidingly remembered the fun times and sweet memories with him when I was a little girl and a teenager. haha that guy is getting older and older now but my love and respect for him will never change. :)

Life is good along with its normal trend of ups and downs! I am an ordinary person, I have weaknesses and shortcomings but there's one thing I know to be sure and that is having the best things in my life that help me see my worth.....my wonderful husband and my children.

This is Kevron when he gets home from work everyday!

Our new ward- Valley View 3rd ward

Our new ward is great. I'm impressed by the level of interaction the classes have. When a question was presented, there was no shortage of good comments. In fact, most of the comments I had in mind were given before I had the chance to make them!

Today was the primary presentation. They sang well, and it looked well done. Irene and I were impressed. We sat in the back near the door (for quick veyron escape) and we could still hear them! hehe!

Veyron attended nursery for the first time also this week. In previous weeks we kept him away from it for fear that his tongue infection was contagious. He really enjoyed it. He played and played.

It was an excellent sunday.

Two Becomes Three

Our love bore fruit in April 6, 2007 when Veyron Kev Rees was born. His name is a combination of Irene joY and kEVRON. He is our little joy. I'll never forget the experience of being a father. It really changes everything. We watch him grow, learn to do things, and experience life for the first time. It was the little things at first, like when he was finally able to track me with his eyes as I walked from one end of the floor to the other. When he rolled over for the first time it was especially exciting. He walked for the first time at 10.5 months. He was climbing the stairs long before that. Now, you can't keep anything from him. Leave him alone for 2 seconds and he's off getting himself into trouble. He loves the outside world.

Soon he will be accompanied by our second child. He'll be a good big brother. Thank goodness they both have a wonderful mother who cares so much for them and their well-being. She's awesome!

We love our son very much as our children are all that we really have at this point in our lives. We are glad and thankful for that. >Kevron

Words are just not enough to explain the depth of joy and happiness that I felt when I became a mother. My very heart's dream was fulfilled! Today, I am pregnant with our second baby. Time is just so quick in passing. Life has been very challenging yet fulfilling. I love my home sweet home on the earth and feel very blessed with my wonderful husband, children, our families and good friends. >IJ

Love Love Love

"A long and lasting love"

IJ and I met on the island of Leyte in the Philippines. Both of us were serving a full-time mission for our church. We knew very little of each other at that time but soon after we had both returned to our homes, our relationship bloomed. We were married about 1yr later in the LDS Bountiful, Utah in the House of the Lord in April 13th 2006 for all time and eternity.

I remember how I felt about Irene Joy when I served with her. I could see how diligent and hard working she was. But I also knew her to be of cheery nature, she was always happy. I felt her testimony and her awesome spirit. During the long time that consisted of our dating and "getting to know you" period, I got to know her deeper. She doesn't give up, despite the many hardships of a long distance relationship.

When we were married I said to myself, I have found Joy. She was the one who made me happier than anyone or anything else ever has. Our marriage was beautiful and fulfilling. She was so beautiful, I will never forget. >Kevron

It is very normal when people ask you how you met your spouse and when I say, "my husband and I both served as full-time missionaries for our church in the same mission...that's basically how we met". Then they'd say that it is so neat (at least those that asked me so far). I am so grateful that Kevron and I experienced the same blessings that come from serving the Lord. Wonderful experiences that are eternal that we share together and help us press forward in this life. Above all things, I express my gratitude to my Father in Heaven for giving us the opportunity to become the best that we can be. >IJ
